The Hallmarks Of Montreal

Winter weekends are now for discovering the distinctive European flair that makes Montreal a destination unlike any other on the continent.  One of the hallmarks of the city is its inspiring dining experience.  Another is the number of attractions that await the novice visitor.

Montreal boasts a downtown where people not only dine but live, work, fall in love, play and do pretty much anything else well.  Here you will find the symphony, the opera, the vaunted Place des Arts, museums, international and local artist-run galleries, scads of haute couture shopping, plus easy escapes in every direction to winter resorts.

Unlike many other cities in North America, Montreal does not hibernate.  Rather, winter signals the unveiling of an exciting cultural calendar.  The winter festival, La Fete des Neiges, draws people in the thousands to revel in the spectacular snow-covered outdoors.  Along side the theater, performance venues and nightclubs, Montreal’s cafe society is the devoted to the season-proof shopping of its underground city (an experience heightened by a generous 30% exchange on US currency).

As one of the oldes cities in North America, this is also, after Paris, the next largest French-speaking city in the world.  Though don’t despair it you can not wrap your toungue around ‘bonjour’ and ‘merci’.  English is alive here as well as a confluence of other cultures, to influence cuisine, fashion, the arts and, well, everything with an elan that is exclusive to Montreal.

Uniquely cradled on an island in the St. Lawrence River, the historical buildings of Montreal, cobblestone streets along with modern towers of 21st buildings blend its days as the cornerstone of the fur trade into the enlightened cultural metropolitan of today.  This architecture that mix old-new centuries also covers a network of lodgings numbering over 25,000 rooms, including world-known hotel chains.

Yet, despite its undeniably cosmopolitan nature, Montreal is infused with an intimate charm that can be best summed up as being a world away but not far away.  Actually, Montreal is close by, it’s just an hour away by plane from the big apple.  Here in Montreal, you can visit the must-see Casino de Montreal, The Biodome, Montreal Botanical Garden and so many-many more.
